In the historic, charming seaside village of Castletownshend, Mary Ann’s pub was once a 17th century coaching inn. And not a lot seems to have changed, other than the menu, which takes the very best from sea and field to create special dishes.

Another local favourite, Cafe Velo sits right on the river at George’s Quay, chooses local produce where possible and serves up brunch favourites in a bright, simple space. A fine Sunday morning option in the city.

When Jeffa Gill began making cheese on her farm in 1979, it was part of her pioneering spirit and drive to provide for her family from her own small-holding in West Cork. Jeffa also wanted to capture something of the goodness of this ancient farming land in her unique, hand-crafted cheeses. Today, almost four decades later, Durrus cheeses are still made by hand, using traditional techniques on their own farm.

Proudly local, very individual and a little eccentric, Divas is exactly what you wouldn’t expect to find in the tiny, tucked-away village of Ballinspittle. A half-hour drive from the city and famous for its own baked breads and cakes, lunches and brunches, at Divas you are also very close to the famous surfing beach at Garretstown. It’s a small dining room, so you may have to wait for a table on busy weekends. The eggs really do come from the farm next door.
