Sangria is one of the classic summertime drinks – bringing back happy memories of sipping a tall, cool glass while poolside or enjoying a sun-downer on a balcony overlooking the sea.
The Kinsale Mead Co – famous for reviving the ancient art of distilling with honey on the Wild Atlantic Way – have given us their take on the classic Spanish sangria – which has all the flavours of a hot summer in Cork.
The Celtic Sangria replaces red wine with a premium Irish product, Wild Red Mead, from the Kinsale Mead Co.
This mead has zesty blackcurrants sourced from Wexford, balanced with sweetness from dark cherries to compliment the flavours of the Spanish honey. A orange from a splash of Cointreau goes so well with the berries without overpowering the subtle flavours. Topped off with a mix of cranberry and lime juice, the Celtic Sangria is a flavour phenomenon for any beach party, poolside drinks or back garden get-together in the Irish Summer.
Shake and serve in a tall glass over ice with a slice of orange or fancy it up with a handful of frozen berries in a jug for sharing.
All you will need is;
1 measure of Cointreau
2 measures of Wild Red Mead
2 measures of cranberry juice
dash of lime juice
Serve over ice with an orange slice.
And there you have it! A refreshing, zesty Celtic Sangria for an Irish summer.
